"Don’t let
anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the
believers
in speech,
in life, in love, and in purity." - 1 Timothy 4:12
Christ

GROW in Jesus Christ their God involves
anything that helps our youth develop their relationship with
God. Spending time with god usually involves praying (sharing concerns
and listening) and spending time reading and meditating on God’s Word. It
also involves just being aware the God is always with us.
From
a youth ministry perspective, it particularly refers to opportunities to
learn about God and His will for our lives through Bible studies, Sunday
School classes, confirmation classes, and intensive discipleship
groups. We also provide youth with daily devotionals to help them spend
time with God regularly.

PRAISE God involves
anything to do with worshipping God. We
fulfill the purpose of worship by communicating our love to God
through praying, singing, giving, thanking, participating in the
sacraments, and listening to God wherever we are in life. In
it’s most typical form, it means going to church services. It
also refers to helping lead services. Since music is such a large
part of most teen’s lives, we focus much of our praising God effects
of music. We take our
youth to Christian concerts and invite bands to play at our church. We
also have a contemporary Christian music library for our youth to
use. |

 | |
BUILD RELATIONSHIPS through God focuses
on helping our youth develop Christian friendships. These
are the fun activities, retreats, and trips we do to help the youth
get to know more about each other and have shared experiences. We
encourage our youth to call on each other for encouragement and pray
for each other. |

|
SERVE OTHERS for God are
the community serve projects that we do. God
calls us to be HIS hands and feet, so our youth ministry organizes
events to allow youth to reach out with God’s love in physical ways
to help others. From
visiting shut-ins, collecting canned food for SouperBowl Sunday,
picking up trash at a local park, to helping build a Habitat for
Humanity house, we serve in a variety of ways. |
|
 |
|
SHARE GOD WITH OTHERS is
our way of reaching out to our community and world with the Gospel. This
involves training our youth to share what they believe. It
sometimes involves specific events, such as our Easter Celebration
where our main goal is to share the Gospel message with others. In
many cases, this involves praying for our friends that don’t trust
in Jesus and inviting them to come to church and youth group
activities with us. |

FISH (5th and 6th grade) Youth
FISH stands for “Friends
In Safe Hands.” The fish symbol
was used by the early Christians to identify each other. Youth
at this age are still in the safe hands of their parents, but most
importantly are in the safest hands of Jesus.
“Come,
follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.” - Mark 1:17
This group generally meets once a month during the school year. Parents
of youth in the group take responsibility for coordinating at least one
event each year, so the time and date varies due to the activity. This
also allows the youth to help plan activities that they know they will
enjoy.
The
group’s activities include both fun (such as corn mazes, rock climbing,
pottery, ice skating, etc.) and service oriented activities (leaf raking,
free car washes, helping with games at our Easter Celebration, etc.)
combined with a Bible devotion.

Pro Deo (7th and 8th Grade Youth)
Pro Deo is a Latin
phrase meaning “For God.” This is a time when many feel like the world
is overwhelming them, and they need to know that when God is for them,
nothing can overtake them. This is also a time when youth experience
confirmation, which culminates in them making a public statement that
they will live their lives “for God.”
“If
God
is for us, who can be against us?” -Romans
8:31b
-
Each
month this group does either or both a
fun activity (pool party, hiking, skiing, etc.) or a service project
(visiting a nursing home, free babysitting for parents, serving
lunch at the church fair, etc.).
-
Our 7th and 8th
grade youth also attend weekly confirmation classes with Pastor.
-
This group also
supports a Compassion Child, who is a child living in poverty in a
foreign country. The cost to support a Compassion Child is $32 a
month. If members would like to support this project, we ask that
they bring $5 a month to help. We also receive letters from and
write to our child.
-
This group often
does joint activities with our senior high youth group, such as
Overnight Events, trips to Six Flags, River Tubing, and helping with
our annual Easter Celebration.
The highlight of the
year for this group is our annual trip to a Youth Encounter weekend in
Worchester, where the group hears a great speaker, bands, and
participates in activities that brings God’s Word alive. They
also meet hundreds of youth from around the area. |

FIRE (9th-12th Grade) Youth
After our youth have made a public declaration of their
faith, we pray that they will be “on fire” for God. Their faith will
continue to be refined (as by fire), and they will also be challenged to
share their faith with others, so that God’s love will spread like
fire. It also stands for “Following In Righteousness Eternally.”
“This third I will bring into the fire; I will refine
them like silver and test them like gold. They will call on my name and
I will answer them; I will say, ‘They are my people,’ and they will say,
‘The LORD is our God.’” - Zechariah 13:9
We have at least one
activity each month that generally alternates between service (Serving
Easter Breakfast, Habitat for Humanity, Celebration events for kids,
etc.) and fun (Laser Tag, Video Scavenger Hunts, etc.).
This group has a
Sunday morning Bible class. They
are also welcome to help teach a younger Sunday School class.
During the year, many
group members work to fundraiser for our big summer trip. | | |

College Ministry
Although they may be far from home, we continue to minister
to our college students. Both our high school and college graduates receive
a special blessing and gift in the Spring. As freshman in college, they
receive information about area churches and Christian organizations on
campus.
Throughout the school year, our students are sent
newsletters designed especially for college students. Inspirational and
funny emails are also sent to our college students on a regular basis.
Before both winter and spring finals, our college students are sent care
packages made by our senior high youth.
College students and parents, please be sure to update
our DCE with your current addresses, so that you won’t miss a newsletter or
package (691-1893 or by
email).
We also organize fellowship events when our college
students are home, such as during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and summer
break. College students are also welcome to participate in our senior high
youth activities when they are home.
